Richmond Wedding at St. Mary’s Catholic Church + Marriott Short Pump

Kate and Colton are officially married, and it sure made this Richmond wedding photographer have a full heart!

After months of wedding postponements and Plan Bs, Kate and Colton’s wedding was the first of my 2020 weddings to happen on its scheduled date with a reception! And yes, some things definitely look different—social distancing, masks, and hand sanitizer on each table—but for the most part it was just a BEAUTIFUL wedding day, and it was great to see everyone having fun!

About the Couple

Kate and Colton met 3 years ago in a class they were both taking at Virginia Tech. Their professor told the class to ‘introduce yourself to the person next to you,’ and the two were sitting beside one other!

They continued to sit together throughout the semester, and one day when Colton was out, Kate offered to send him her notes. He asked if she’d rather meet up for lunch together to share the notes, and that eventually led to lots of texting, followed by the two of them making it ‘official!’

How He Asked

Colton and Kate both love Hokie Football. One day, Colton suggested that they go to Lane Stadium to work out. And when they got there, he led her out to the 50-yard line where he dropped down to one knee and proposed! How sweet is that?

Their Wedding Day

The couple now calls Oklahoma home, but Kate grew up in the Richmond area so she knew she wanted to have her wedding here. The two are both Catholic, so they chose to get married in her family’s church, and they decided on a Marriott reception to make it easy for their out of town guests!

Their colors were blush and navy with pops of Tiffany blue making an appearance in the invitation and bridal details! Colton wore his military uniform and was excited to get to carry his sword for the day!

The two shared a special First Look at the church before the ceremony, and it was so sweet! Colton had the biggest grin on his face as he folded Kate into a hug before asking her to take a spin around so he could check out her dress!

Kate and Colton, it’s been an absolute pleasure getting to know you during this special season of your lives! (On a side note, after seeing your beautiful gallery wall of your engagement photos, I can’t wait to see what you’ll come up with for your wedding photos!!!)

Here are a few of my favorite Richmond wedding photos from Kate and Colton’s big day!
