Heather and Ben’s destination wedding at Legacy of the Lakes Museum and Gardens in Alexandria, Minnesota, was already stunning, and then her bouquet arrived!

I met Heather and Ben in Williamsburg for their engagement session. We explored Williamsburg Inn and Colonial Williamsburg, and because of Covid, even though it was the busy season between Thanksgiving and Christmas, we basically had the place to ourselves! It was surreal capturing a shot of a horse-drawn carriage going by with your couple posed in the middle of the street and not see anyone walking in the background!

I just loved photographing Heather & Ben’s Williamsburg Engagement Session and meeting their cute dog, Gus. I was slightly obsessed with their photos, and I guess they loved them so much that they ultimately asked me to photograph their wedding, too! I was so honored!

These two are high school sweethearts originally from Minnesota. They met when they were sophomores in high school, and their very first date was at Dairy Queen for ice cream. Although they now live in Virginia, they knew they wanted to travel back to their hometown, where their relationship started, and get married.

Heather and her bridesmaids started their day getting ready while wearing adorable pajamas and popping a bottle of bubbly. Heather’s bridesmaids shared a striking look with her as she displayed her beautiful gown and attire, as she caught sight of how beautiful they looked in their light blue and floral dresses. Heather’s garter was an heirloom passed down from her late grandmother Karen.

Ben wore a navy suit, and his groomsmen wore light grey suits, and they all enjoyed being decked out in their crazy socks. Their pup, Gus, joined in some of their portraits and donned the cutest bow tie. He was even lucky enough to be in the ceremony!

Their wedding was on a lovely, sunny day with their ceremony by the water and the venue gardens served as a delightful backdrop with a bridge, gazebo, and florals. The smoke from the Canadian wildfires just across the border had diminished visibility all week, casting the entire state under a thick grey haze and air quality warnings. But winds shifted, and on their wedding day, there was nothing but gorgeous blue skies!

Heather carried a beautiful, ginormous bridal bouquet with vibrant peonies, roses, and greenery. Her bouquet was a showstopper and presented the perfect touch of color to their wedding day. These floral displays were used all throughout the reception as well.

They ended their fantastic wedding day with an excellent sparkler exit. These are always such a fun way to end your reception or to get the party started! (We can always have a controlled sparkler exit if my coverage ends before your reception is over!)

Ben and Heather, it was so much fun flying out to your hometown in Minnesota for this destination wedding! I loved being part of this special moment in your lives.
