Cavalier Hotel Wedding

Anna and Joe couldn’t have picked a more perfect Virginia Beach wedding venue for their day. Their Cavalier Hotel wedding looked both modern and as if you’d stepped back in time—simply classic and timeless. It was important to the couple for their guests to enjoy a relaxed day without a lot of driving around, and having both the ceremony and reception at The Cavalier definitely provided that experience for them!

Anna grew up in Virginia Beach and always admired The Cavalier as the ‘mysterious building up on the hill.’ So after touring a few wedding venues that just didn’t feel quite right, The Cavalier popped into her mind. She and Joe visited The Cavalier, and knew that this was where they should be married! Joe was a political science major and really appreciated the rich history of the stately venue.

The couple’s own history began when they met on St. Patrick’s Day at Virginia Tech when they were students. They instantly hit it off but left without getting each other’s numbers. Fortunately, true love prevailed and their story didn’t end there!

Anna stunned in a wispy Alexandra Grecco silk wedding gown and Joe wore a classic black tuxedo from Calvin Klein. Some of my favorite details from their day included the bunches of white flowers—tulips, hydrangeas, and roses—in white vases that flanked the crystal Chiavari chairs in the ceremony space and lined the long rows of tables in their reception in the Grand Ballroom. Arches of greenery and roses made a beautiful backdrop behind the draped cross for their ceremony, and they graced each of the mirrored entrance doors to their reception. Their invitation suite in shades of soft grey was made up of deckled handmade paper and adorned with a wax seal designed with an image of the bell tower from atop The Cavalier. Anna hand-lettered the guests’ place cards in gold, and they rested on grey velvet napkins at each seat.

Anna and Joe shared a touching First Look where Anna presented Joe with a surprise wedding gift of beautiful square black cufflinks. After the two had caught up on hugs and the events of the day so far, we captured a few portraits. Then the wedding party joined us to take their photos. (First Looks are such a great way to get a lot of your photos completed before your ceremony, so you can spend more time with your guests after it!)

Their ceremony was to take place at The Cavalier’s Sunken Garden, but the weekend-long rains from Hurricane Delta moved it indoors. Their beautiful ceremony was officiated by Joe’s dad, and Joe teared up a bit as Anna walked down the aisle toward him on her father’s arm.

After family formals and a few just married portraits, the couple was able to join their cocktail hour and grab a quick bite and some alone time before being introduced at their reception. The Grand Ballroom twinkled with the chandeliers overhead and the candles flickering on the tables, making the floral arrangements in shades of white seem to glow.

Anna and Joe, your day was so beautiful, and it was an honor to be there to help you document it. I enjoyed seeing how lovingly you interact with one another, and wish you a lifetime of happiness together!
